Page 1 of Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
Hardware Forum
Since my bargain Panny DK321 was faulty I need to find another budget 32" widescreen.
Looking at
Philips 6006 and 6515 - the 6006 has received some great reviews for Picture quality etc. Anybody have any views on either of these?
Also seen a Sharp 32HW53H with 3 Scarts for £563 - anybody have on of these or other Sharp TVs?
Cheers.
Update: Seen a 32PW6515 for £650 inc at HiSpek - is worth paying the extra £150 over a 32PW6006?

RE: Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
I bought a Sharp 32" WS just after Christmas (not sure on the model now), this was returned less than a week later. I found the picture quality to be very poor. The picture did not seem to have any depth, especially when it was set in a dark scene.
The best way I can describe dark scenes is it reminded my of when PC games firtst started to include video cut scenes and the quality was knocked right down, you would find it hard to see different shades of black (somebodys black hair would dissapper into the black background).
But what really done it for me was noticing very nasty colour bleeding during a movie (the TV was boxed and taken back so fast after that).
When I had a look at the model on display in the shop I found it had the same problems.
In the end I decided to pay the extra for a 32" Sony, and boy is it worth it.
Hope this helps.

Harry - I`ve just bought the Philips 32PW6515 and it`s great! I would say it`s worth the extra £150 - it is about 2 or 3 models up from the PW6006. I looked at both models and the main advantages of the PW6515 are:
- totally flat screen (which is nice!)
- virtual dolby surround sound
- built in sub-woofer
- the overall "look"!!
Hope this helps!
RE: Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
Around 2 yrs agao i bought the 76FW54H model, which is 32" widescreen and i think its great. I think the sound on the TV could be better, but i bet you dont have as many features on the phillips as you do on the Sharp.
Its got Dolby prologic too, but thats crap. Well, if your looking at buying seperates its crap.
RE: Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
Well,
Cant justify/afford the extra dosh for a Sony so I ordered the Philips 32PW6515. Could not face the idea of looking at a screen that appears curvier than my 7 year old Mitsubishi - so the 6006 had to be out.
The 6515 should arrive tomorrow and the missus is going away for Easter. So, I am going be a sad bastard and spend the whole extra long weekend watching loadsa Films.
Thanks for the advice.
RE: Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
Hulk/harry- have either of you noticed the processing flaw which affects the 6515 models?. If your sets have it, then you`ll notice blocky artifacts flashing across the screen after a sudden change in contrast. So, movie trailers for instance (specifially ones which have fast cutting between clips and a black screen) will be particularly bad and the artifacts may even go so far as to become thick white/red bands. They may only be noticeable for a second, but it`s very distracting once you`ve seen it. The newest batch of them might be free of the problem, so you`ve probably got nothing to worry about. Try the thunder & lightning scene in Castaway (just after the plane crash) or a couple of trailers and see if it happens or not....
RE: Philips / Sharp TVs any good?
Tony,
Mine only arrived this morning at 8am. At work at present so havent tried it out yet.
Will lookout for the artefact problem and report back.
Cheers.
Ah, so it`s not just me after all! I got the 32" 6515 some months ago and noticed the artifacts after a couple of weeks, usually red/black/white blocks flashing somewhere roughly within the middle 1/3 of the screen vertically, usually I think on the left side. Very annoying in some scenes, but fortunately it only seems to be visible when there are significant changes in brightness from one frame to the next. Lightning and strobo lights (such as in music videos) seem to be particularly bad.
I`ve been thinking of complaining about this while the warranty is still valid, but haven`t got around to it yet. Now I`m wondering if it would be any use anyway, since it`s apparently not a problem with just my unit...
Otherwise I`m rather happy with the TV.
Moved to a new thread...
