Page 1 of Skybox Problem
Hardware Forum
I`ve got a 1st generation Pace box fitted on day one of sky digital and it`s unbelievably slow. So a friend has given me her Amstrad coz she no longer subscribes. Now this is much faster but for any Sky channels a message says" this is the wrong card for this set top box" Is this the norm for Sky? .Should I get another Pace(£45 in the local rag) or will I have to pay Sky for a new one??
Mike
Sorry people I think this should be in the General Forum (But I obviously had a "senior" moment!!)

Yeah,
It doesnt work like the old analogue system. You cant use someone elses machine and your card and visa versa.
The machine recognises your card

I believe that the lesser pay channels will work with any pay card, but Movies & Sport will not. Sky will send another card to work with your `New` receiver. I used deal with Satellite systems & have kept up with it & there is only one box to get & that is the Panasonic. It is more reliable & the fastest. The newer Pace is almost as fast & the Sony has Optical out for sound.
You don`t even have to get another card - if you phone up Sky and quote your serial number, they will "re-pair" your existing card to the new box. I can`t remember the exact procedure but it must be online somewhere.

Thanks Xeno,Paull and Mike for that good news !!
This forum has changed my life!!

SKY are notoriously difficult with things like this.
I used to have a black digibox. My mate had a silver one.
We wanted to swap. They flat refused to help us.
All they have to do is match the digibox serial number to the viewing card number, but they flat refused.
B*****ds....
I had to go out and buy a new silver box....
