WHAT PLAYER SHOULD I GET ? Help appreciated.

pjaxon (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 12th March 2002, 21:06

I used to be a regular on this excellent site but have been `away` for a while. My DVD player has just died and i need to buy another.

So I am looking for a player with the following features...........

1) Macro disabled
2) Multi region
3) Excellent pic quality (Minimum pixellation)

Open to suggestions, budget range or high end. please bring me up to speed.

Thank you

Jaxon

Hi we just bought a Mico clasica 20 from Sainsbury`s and it is superb, cracking visuals and RCE Ok I think as you can set region and Macro sortable. Also some very nice sound tricks, theatre, concert etc.
They are £90 until the 2nd of April and worth every penny. The picture is at least as good as a Toshiba 210 maybe slightly better.
Also it holds RGB constantly on the scart, some like the Dansia loose it and it has a good proper tray set up.
Not had it long but it seems very good and a nice quiet drive and a bonus is that it doesn`t affect TV signal for instance when you are watching DVD and taping on the video some budget players trash the signal this doesn`t seem to.
Hope it stays good news with ours as not had it long, Aparently they got best buy in What video and TV.
Good luck whatever you get, Best Mark. Ps the Dansai is still a good machine and to be had occasionally for £50 if you are lucky I believe.

PPS its a swap out thing if you get a faulty one you just take it back and walk out with another( but you do have to tell them !!!!!! )

There is only ONE choice

Pioneer DV646A Superb player with ALL the trimmings and more including DVD-Audio & will set you back about £340.00

The DV737 recommended above was & still is a good player but now has ceased manufacture & its main selling point was progessive scan but you will need a TV with component inputs to benefit from this.

I have the DV646A & can honestly say that I have yet to find a machine that can beat it in its price bracket
