Is modyfying worth it?

shenbop2001 (Competent) posted this on Sunday, 10th March 2002, 14:50

Hey,
I`ve been looking around at places on the internet to get my Toshiba SD110e player (which I only got 2 or 3 months ago) chipped for multi region, the cheapest I can find to get it collected, fit and delivered back to me is £50 and this chip doesnt even disable macrovision. So I would have to get a mac master lead to disable the macrovision, costing another £30 so in all it would cost me £80, is it worth it or should I just buy another player which is hackable for both???

Well, do you REALLY think you need macrovision removed? I have a mac disabled player and have yet to get round to sorting out the cables and having the need to make use of the facility.

If I were you, I`d buy another player (a ready modified or easily hackable one) and find a new home for the old Tosh. Eighty pounds is a lot of money, whichever way you look at it, and I think it would be far better put towards a new player with a warranty.

I have this player multi-region. I don`t know if it has macrovision disabled or not.

In fact, I don`t even know what macrovision is therefore it can`t be THAT important.

I`d keep the player and pay the £50. I don`t think it is worth selling it as the price of this player has dropped quite a lot recently. I have seen it for £140 multi-region inc. delivery.

So I don`t think you would get that much for it.

I think Toshiba are phasing out this player.

I think it`s an excellent player, I am happy with mine and have no intention of upgrading.
