HOME CINEMA PACKAGES - ADVICE ON 3 BELOW !?

Simon-Wilts (Harmless) posted this on Friday, 8th March 2002, 22:44

I have looked a few of the budget home cinema packages that are on the market (and in my price range!) and have narrowed my choice down to the 3 below. I would be grateful for any general advice on quality of systems and limitations etc -

JVC CP100 AL
SONY DAVS 500
PIONEER NS DV88

Thanks for any comments.

I would say that the sony davs500 is the best bet. It has excellent picture quality if only s- video, and the sound is pretty good too. I would like to say though that I owed the previous system the s300 and I was really happy with it, untill I heard a good seperate system. Now I have sold my s300 and brought everything seperatly and it`s 10 times better. I know it`s more expensive but if you`re patient and buy the player first, then save hard for an receiver and two main speakers, then you can save for the effect speakers. it`s really worth doing. The quality of seperates is excellent.

just to give you an idea of my system : Sony dvp/ns 900 dvd player
Yamaha rxv 620 rds receiver
wharfedale 8.1 fronts (small room)
wharfedale diamond centre
mission m7ds rears
Hope this helps

I have the DAVS500 and think it`s an excellent package, can`t fault the picture or sound even when compared to similarly priced separates. If you`d like a bit more in the way of opinion check out www.avforums.com and read some of the past threads on the DAVS500 !!
