my new tv has usb on and it says u can record onto usb /this is not the problem i have a tivo and looking to plug tivo into tv and record channels from the tivo with usb in tv as u carnt record from tivo itself unless its to hd inbuilt can it be done to usb

I think I understand what you mean, but I don`t think you can do that.
my V+ box is connected to TV with HDMI lead. My TV has USB sockets which I can connect a USB hard drive to and record to (although I haven`t tried).
If I tried I could only record from the TV`s tuner, i.e. terrestrial and freeview channels. I don`t think I could tell it to record scart or hdmi and it would record that.
