Pacific 750...black & white???

killergoldfish (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 6th March 2002, 21:27

Today I have hooked up a Pacific 750 player to my video via a scart cable. I disabled Macro and got a picture, trouble is...the picture will only display in black & white (which obviously records in b & w too). Can anyone tell me why this is happening.

Also, when I connect the player to my tv, which has two scart sockets, depending on which socket I use determines whether it plays in b & w or colour. If I plug it into one scart socket on the tv it plays in b & w, but if I plug it into the other scart socket on the tv it plays in colour.

Could the problem lie with the video....it is nearly 12 years old.

My video has only one scart socket by the way.

Cheers.

Is it a region 1 DVD? If so then your video wont display NTSC in color. Most likely at this age. Same could go for the TV. If you output RGB from your DVD and plug into the RGB socket on your TV then you get color. Yoo could check to see if your DVD can do NTSC - PAL conversion. May be in the players set up menu or a switch on the back.

I`ve tried R1, R2 & R4 discs and they all play in b & w. in the menu set up on the dvd player you can set it to either pal, ntsc or auto which I have tried.
The video is a Panasonic which plays ntsc videos (which was the reason I bought it all those years ago).

I also have a Panasonic tv, so could one of the tv`s scarts be rgb and the other not?

Does any of this make any sense?

I had that problem when connecting my 750 to the video. I pressed the VIDEO/Y button on the remote control a few times and one of the settings got the picture in colour.

I havent figured out why the playback keeps pausing when you play movies yet though, unless anyone has any ideas?
