Wharfedale DVD750 OR Pioneer 340 / 343

Was in Richer Sounds with £150 to spend on a player. They recommended the Wharfdale over the Pioneer.

Any comments from the experts here. I`m trialing the Whardale, but have to admit to being a little dissapoined with the colour and picture. It does not appear as good as the much cheaper Cyberhome I briefly had before it broke. Should I go for Pioneer?

Thanks in advance

Hi

I have a Whafedale 750 multiregion, and I have found the picture quality throught my Panasonic wide screen to be excellent. I have two main concerns with the player though

1. Its not superfast at responding to the remote or the eject button
2. It will not play the film "13 Days" just keep looping round the Touchstone logo

In my case I needed a cheap player that could play US disks, I have not seen Pioneer so I cannot comment on it. Hope this helps

Andy

I have a pioneer 340 which I bought as the minato i bought from tescos was unable to handle some cheap chinese DVDs I`d bought due in one case to some imperfections on the disc, whereas my Pioneer DVD rom drive would . Oh and the minato wouldn`t play three colours white and red due i suspect to incompatability problems of some sort.
The pioneer seems to play all my DVDs including the aforementioned damaged chinese one (with reservations, still pixelates a bit if played from cold) , I reckon one of the main considerations with a player is the quality of the drive especially if you buy anything aside from mainstream releases, cheap players can`t handle variable quality DVDs. Unfortunately I can`t comment on the quality of the sound as i`m using a couple of powered PC speakers and a standard 21" TV but I`m quite happy with the DVD player.
Its a pity that the DVD hardware magazines seem to be way behind with their reviews and as yet have not reviewed the 340/343
