No audio between dvd player and recorder

tpmchugh (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 14th December 2009, 17:04

Had to finally replace my old Liteon recorder and bought an LG DRT389h. Connected it in the same way as my old recorder but when I play a dvd from my LG combi through either scart socket on the recorder I get no sound, just picture. Thought maybe it was a loose scart but if I play back an old VHS I get picture and sound. Everything else works fine. Any ideas??

I guess it`s possible this is the copy protection making sure you can`t do what you`re trying to do. I don`t know. Have you tried home burned discs as well as official pressed discs to see if you get a different outcome?

It was a home burned disc, not a commercially pressed one. It was a home video I was trying to copy. I did subsequently try a commercial disc and same problem

Check in the recording settings for which type of PAL it`s set to.
There`s PAL-B, PAL-i and summat else, can`t remember, but all three will usually give picture on each type of the other, but don`t give audio.

Was a common setting issue with people returning telly`s but not heard of it in your scenario, not to say it`s not why it`s happening though.

Also check for where the recorder is recording it`s audio from, ie: line in, Scart or digital/spdif as it may again, just be an incorrect setting.
