Suggestions for a surround system.

I would like some suggestions on what would be a good dvdplayer/surround system package to buy. I don`t really know a great deal about this kind of stuff so any help would be appreciated.

Basically what I am looking for is an all in one sort of package, y`know dvd player with surround sound system etc where I don`t have to buy any extras. Obviously I would like one that I`d be able to make multi-region too. I don`t want anything too powerful as I only have a small house and I don`t think the foundations would take it.

Also, not too expensive either as I am watching the pennies at the moment.

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers.

If as you say you have a small area to cover with glorious surround sound you could do a lot worse than choose the Sony DAVS-500 which is an all in one system with speakers and subwoofer included. It`s praised in the press and if you look around on the web you should find it Multi-region for £499.00
One slight drawback is that the cabling between the speakers and amp/dvd is a given length so you may find that it doesn`t reach to the rears. You can`t just pop into Dixons and buy more cable because of the connectors, so either...
sit closer to the telly or knock down a couple of walls and make the room the correct size.
Joking aside as all in ones go.. it`s a goodie!!

I can recommend the Schneider HCS 500. It has Dolby 5.1, DTS, Pro Logic decoders and it sounds fantastic. The best thing is the price, only £299 from Asda, this price includes a free 3 year guarantee. A quick run down on the features:- 5 x 25 Watt speakers, one 50 Watt active sub woofer, RDS radio tuner, plays any disc to care to throw at it including MP3 and finally an easy multi region hack care of the region hacks page on this site.

What more can I say!

See what I wrote in the Surround Sound Cinema thread. The Panasonic is worth considering. I was going to get the Davs500 but then thought that things change so quickly. I mean, look at the ones from a few yrs back - they are nothing compared to the players now. I will repplace mine in a few yrs so best not spend loads right now.
