Cyberhome ADL528 and PC Speakers
Hi,
I have recently ordered my first DVD player, a Cyberhome ADL528, for use on a single speaker portable. However, I have managed to salvage an old set of Labtech bass stereo speakers which I had for my ancient 386 PC. Is it possible to use these for this player without destroying it???? It has a single connector for both of the speakers, which is the same size as the one you would use for personal headphones.
Furthermore, as a DVD virgin, is it safe to stack your telly on top of it. I ask this cos I seriously lack space and have been doing years, but the manual suggests you do not place any heavy objects on it.
Cheers,
Scott J

RE: Cyberhome ADL528 and PC Speakers
Hi,
Looking at the manual on the Cyberhome site (i dont have the player yet!) I have discovered that there are two headphone jacks. Should these produce semi-decent stereo sound? Furthermore, should these speakers be placed beside the player (they are magnetically shielded)?
RE: Cyberhome ADL528 and PC Speakers
I wouldn`t stack the TV on top of the player - I have a Cyberhome 512 and, like most, it seems to need a bit of free air circulating around it to prevent overheating - all the vents are in the top, so a big fat tele covering those vents might not go down too well! I`d give it an inch or two above the player.
Headphone jacks will give stereo sound, but I think (if they are the same as the 512) they are the larger size rather than the 3.5mm type you are likely to have on the PC speakers.
You would be best off getting a 2 phono to 3.5mm plug (or socket, depending on whether the speakers have a socket or captive input cable). Maplins, Tandy or similar (or a PC Component place) would be your best bet. Should only cost a couple of quid. You can then plug that into the 2 channel output on the back of the Cyberhome, set the sound output in the menu to be 2 channel, and you`re away! In fact my first experiment with surround sound was to plug front 2 channels in through the hifi, and the 2 rear channels into a set of pc speakers - as long as your speakers amplify the signal (if you have to plug them in to the mains, then they will), you should be OK.
The player shouldn`t be bothered about having the speakers near - it`s the TV that might complain if the speakers weren`t magnetically shielded.

Thanks Richard,
Would recommend an online store `Cornwall Electronics` for audio accessories!
