Sanyo AVD8501 Home Cinema System (Surround Sound Help)
Hi
I recently bought a Surround Sound System with my DVD player.
Everything is great, however I was wondering if anyone know how I can use the surround sound system, so I can listien to the TV and video through it rather than just DVD`s???
RE: Sanyo AVD8501 Home Cinema System (Surround Sound Help)
Maybe Im being silly... but is there any point in doing what Im asking above for normal TV? I was just thinking of movies on Sky etc etc...

YEs, it`s worth it. I don`t know that system, but it should turn any stereo broadcasts into Prologic - an "older" surround technology.
Does the Sanyo have a "Aux" input or similar, in the form of a pair of phono (RCA) plugs, and an input selector to allow the selection of that input? Hopefully your TV will also have a pair of phono outputs. Both sets of sockets will be coloured red and white.
Simply connect the TV to the Sanyo using those sockets with a twin phono cable - any old one will do to test. Mute the TV`s volume, select the Aux input, and away you go!

I only have 2 scart sockets and a ariel socket at the back of my TV.
The 3 phono sockets (Red/yellow/white) are based under the front panel.
The SCART cable that I got has SCART at one end for the TV and SCART plus red/white phonos at the other for the DVD.
Would that still work??? as I dont fancy having 2 phonos hanging out of the front of the TV

RE: Sanyo AVD8501 Home Cinema System (Surround Sound Help)
The front sockets will be phono IN for plugging a camcorder in or whatever (yellow = composite video), so they probably wouldn`t work anyway.
Presumeably you have the DVD connected to the TV via a scart to scart cable, and the same for you VCR? If so, you won`t have any scart sockets free - also, the scart>phono cable you have is probably wired for phono IN rather than out (unless it`s a switched one).
Here`s an idea - has you VCR got phono outs? If so, run those to the amp, and then as long as you have the VCR tuned to the channel you are watching, you`ll get the sound output.
Remember this all depends on the amp having AUX IN sockets.

i have the same player.
the scart that came with the dvd should work i havent done it that way myself though.
just plug that scart in with the 2 phono leads at the tv end,the other in dvd you proberbly have it like this alredy. plug the red and white lead in the dvd phonos marked `input`L,R, to the far left of player. set dvd to video1 to get sound, you myte need to turn off av channel to the normal tv watching channle and turn down sound on tv.
just plug scart from video to the other scart socket on dvd and set dvd to video2. the should free up a scart socket on the tv have your sky in that if possible.
let me know if it helps you. i can help you more by email if you wish.

Thanks Sledge
Only problem with that is at the back of the TV there is no phono inputs, just 2 scart sockets..
Current Setup is
SKY Digibox to AV1 (RGB SCART)
DVD Player to AV2 (S-VIDEO SCART)
RE: Sanyo AVD8501 Home Cinema System (Surround Sound Help)
Sorry to jump in here but this is my worry also. My TV has only 2 scart sockets and no phono connections. I am planning on buy a system (Marantz sr4200 + dv4200) but I am worried because of the lack of phono inputs on the TV. I will be mainly using the system for TV/Sat and CD with the occasional DVD. Will I lose surround sound if I don`t have these phono connections ???
I`m nearly sure that I should be able to get the CD surrounds working as I should be able to control that directly from the amp but can anyone please confirm.
Any help appreciated as if I can`t get surround sound for TV/Satellite + CDs I will have to have a serious re-think about this investment. Will I be making a pretty expensive mistake or am I talking cobblers ???????
Thanks,
Dec,,
