Plasma broken - Pick any 42

r8sso (Elite) posted this on Monday, 23rd June 2008, 13:15

Plasma TV broke a few weeks ago and it cant be repaired. The store has said that under the warranty I can come in and pick any 42" TV. Considering my TV is 4 years old I`m pretty pleased with this! :D

The guy on the phone said he recommended we go Panasonic. What do you think? I`m off to have a browse but any thoughts will be appreciated.

[EDIT]

Looking at Panasonic Viera TH42PZ85B Vs Pioneer Kuro PDP-4280XD

The Pioneer is only 768 but from what I`ve picked up sometimes it`s better to go for a quality 768 TV over a cheaper 1080p - especially if it`s only a 42" TV...

Cheers

I can`t give you ny technical details, but when I asked here at the start of the year, I was told that Samsung and Panasonic TVs were the ones you could trust without having to do much research.

Hi - I purchased the Panasonic TH42PZ85B about 1 month ago (after about 3 months of research/deciding!) and am really pleased with it... couldn`t recommend it highly enough. The SD and HD pictures are incredible... I`ve also noticed it is very resistant to "screen burn" - I`ve watched the same thing for 3-4 hours with a large/bold channel logo, and there was no sign of any ghosting or image retention.

You might want to go to somewhere like www.hdtvtest.co.uk and read the specs/review of the models you`re interested in - I found it very helpful. :)

It depends a lot on your budget... if you can afford it, then obviously go for the Pioneer - it gets rave reviews in all the mags and sites.

If you`re on a budget of under £1000 though, one of the Panasoinc models would do nicely. I think the new Panny PZ800 is coming out any minute too, which looks the bee knees (it`ll probably be closer the £1300 mark though).

Can you pick any 42" tv and pay the difference for the 50+ version?

Seriously, If they have pioneers then take that, if they don`t then get a panasonic. the silver panasonics are older and would be held back stock. Black is the current range.

Is that the time? Damn you Xbox 360!!!!

I went with the Pany. Compared to my 4 year old Philips it replaced it`s beautiful. I`ve only viewed a Sky source with a good quality scart but the picture is amazing. I`m looking forward to feeding it some HD content. :x
