Page 1 of SKY problems

I know it`s a DVD forum but I wondered if anyone has had the same SKY problems as me.
Just lately I`ve been getting real problems getting some channels that I used to get no problem. The channels are ITV, ITV2 and Q Kerrang.
I keep getting " warning - no satellite signal is being received " on these channels and no amount of resetting / removing the viewing card solves it. it`s driving me NUTS !!!
Anyone any ideas ?

Well I was house sitting last year and they had the same problem everytime it rained and got windy.

I have seen that these are broadcast at less power than some of the other channels (all the regional versions have been crammed on so less bandwidth for each as ITV were being mean). The transponder they use is also more focused on the UK. Therefore if you are not in England ie in Scotland or Ireland you need a bigger dish than the standard free minidish to get reasonable quality.

You are experiencing problems with low band channels the likely cause is your lnb especially if it is a Cambridge they are notoriously unreliable,The other poss is that your reciever,s power supply is generating switching noise because of worn out capacitors thus resulting in loss of these channels this problem is particularly prevalent with Grundig200 what stb have you got??

Pastyman - funny you should say that, i get the exact problem you describe and my stb is a grundig - though i lose channels at random - even movie channels - i usually have to rset the box at least once or twice a week to get them all back (more if the damn thing freezes) - had the engineers out twice - once to re -a lign the dish and second time to replace the lnb - still bloody does it though - seems to be one of those things we have alearned to accept - bit like Windoze and the B.S.O.D...

If your reciever is a 200 the capacitors on the secondary side will need replacing they can cause all manner of problems its a fairly simple operation , bit of a poor design etc you might want to consider getting it insured through Domestic & General £60.00 for a year covers the whole system and you,ll guaranteed to get a service engineer rather than a "installer".

Pastyman.. do you have the specs of the caps involved before i take the lid off - i have built many a electronic project in my time and am very capable with a soldering iron and solder sucker...if you have the specs to hand i can pick em up and put them in all in one go, rather than rip it out from under the telly etc etc...

Can they be replaced with "better" quality caps?

It`s a PACE box I`ve got. SKY are telling me it`s a dish problem and are charging me £60 for an engineer to come and sort it.
Don`t you just love SKY ? They provide you with the equipment to facilitate the reception of their programmes but they wash their hands of any problems with said equipment when it goes wrong.
It`s like you joining the army as a tank driver, then the army telling you you`re responsible for repairs if the tank goes wrong...
I wonder what legal options you have with SKY. If I didn`t rely on it so much I`d tell the bank to stop the direct debit and tell SKY I`m not paying them until they sort the equipment for nowt.

Make sure you def have a grundig 200, take it apart there are three different versions of the power supply you,ve probably got the one with two h-sinks parallel with a third along the width of the board there are some caps crammed (and glued) in a very small space ,remove all the glue and replace
