Need help looking for a DVD/HiFi and 32" Widescreen TV that allows my VCR Nicam to produce ProLogic

My current Nicam VCR and Prologic Amp produce a surround sound effect. What I`m trying to do is purchase a combination DVD/HiFi and TV that will give me Dolby Digital 5.1 for the DVD but will also allow surround sound from the VCR. I`ve tried the LG FD25 but the Aux setting didn`t allow Surround Sound to be activated. I have a budget of £1500 so I was looking at digital TV. Can anyone suggest a solution please ??

As far as amp goes, if you wamt the best out of nicam stereo, make sure you get one that does prologic 2 - it`s meant to be excellent. I doubt any of the dvd/amp combos offer this yet, as it`s fairly new on the market.

I believe Sky have started broadcasting some things in 5.1, but it will only be those broadcasts that will be thus encoded, all others will be in nicam, so therefore the prologic/prologic2 will kick in again.

I guess you`re looking for a combo unit to save space, but you are limiting yourself in what you can get, and future upgradeability. Whatever you do, make sure the DVD is multiregion.

I would be tempted to go for something like a multiregion Toshiba 210 (around £180) - there are a couple of Pioneers worth considering too, or lower down the scale try the Cyberhome 528 (£99) - multiregion out of the box. Then for an amp, try either a Denon 1602 (£270) or Onkyo 595 (£350). This would then give you about £1000 for a TV.

I agree with RichardH, going for a combo will severly limit the future proofing.

Prologic 2 is great I have it. Would recomend it highly.

The Nicam VCR will connect to a prologic 1 or 2 amp and provide surround sound. DVD connected to teh amp will give full 5.1 surround.
Tv broadcasts mainly use Nicam and Prologic 1 but will be enhanced by Prologic 2.

You need Sky + to get full 5.1 off air. Unfortunately this is only for Sky film channels currently.

Make the system modular then you can upgrade bit by bit. Denon make cracking surround amps. Partner with a good multiregion DVD and get a TV with the best picture and dont worry about its sound capability as your new amp will handle that.
