Eltax Atmoic A8 sub-woofer - Any good?

Philip Ellis (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 2nd January 2002, 11:49

I`m thinking of buying one of these and am interested in your comments on it.

I`ve seen them at Richer Sounds for £120 and also a Techtronics for £104 inc VAT. Anybody seen them elsewhere for less?

Cheers.

Philip

here`s the list with the 3 finishes included - http://www.qed-uk.com/?i=OzOcY08VqHG3&bg=216&v=8 (silver, black, beech).
Not heard one, I`m saving up a bit more for a sub.

It really depends on the rest of your set-up.

Worked fine with a Yammy DSPA5 and Mini Monitor 5 speaker package. Not so hot with a Yammy DSPA5/ Wharfedale Diamond 8.3 + centre + Mish m7ds set up : the Wharfey`s large it themselves big style and make the sub fairly superfluous.

Okay in a small sized living room, but Westy has already sold me on the idea of upgrading to a Yammy YSTW320 sub....

Pays yer money, gets yer choice. I still like the A8, and I`ve had it two years, but it`s time to move on...

QED price is great but no stock. Sometime this month they tell me!

Any decent alternative suggestions greatly appreciated.

I purchased one from maplins, www.maplin.co.uk, and I have been very impressed with it. It creates sound you truly feel!
