I have a Sony S735 DVDplayer which has a dolby digital and DTS decoder built into it. This christmas im getting the surround speakers and amp. Will I be able to play DTS sound through it, or can I only play dolby digital ?

For a start you should have give more information than that about the amp your getting!.

However, you can play both Dolby Digital and DTS if the amp has a 6-Channel input, but it is most likely that the amp will already have a Dolby Digital decoder built in, i and a lot of other people would recommend that you use the amps on-board decoding as it will be better than that of the DVD Player, to do this use the "Optical" or "Coaxial" digital outputs on the back of the player.

As for DTS, you may have to use the DVD Players on-board decoder, the DVD player should have a 6-Channel DTS analogue output on the back, connect all six outputs to the amps 6-Channel input, this will then give you DTS surround, you may also have to do it like this if the amp doesn`t have a DD decoder either.

Make any sense?......
