Are DSP options important, do you use them ?

Back to the old amp research again. I am amazed at how many cinema DSP some amps have, But tell me, do they really serve a purpose. I have listened to all my films in pro-logic for the last couple of years without effects/enhancement and I pressume that I am hearing the effects, all bit it analouge only, as they were intended be heard.
I dont want an to end up buying something with too ` many ` options as I suspect that I may end up trying all of the modes available whilst missing the film !!!
Surely, basic 5.1 or indeed basic DTS will still enhance my aural pleasure with out having to select -

`hologenetic sci-fi spectacle 12 by 12 enhanced rear ducks back` DSP !!!!

I hope that this makes sense. So tell me do you guys fluctuate your DSP modes ? or do the basic modes suffice ?

ta

Peter.

I have to admit when I first got the Yammy A5 I used to experiment with DSPs, but now tend to listen in just raw DD or dts.

Admittedly, the programmes do add a little bit of enhancement but at the end of the day I prefer to go with the original audio - most soundmixes on DVD are so well done, there`s not really any need for them.

Superfluous ? Yes.

Lots of fun to play with ? Most definitely

Vital ? Far from it...

Make your own mind up really !

The DSP options are mostly just toys to fiddle with and tell your mates how many you have !! When I first got my Yamaha DSP I would constantly change between the options but could never decide which actually sounds best. -They do all sound different, but different is not necessarily better, so now I just stick to the basics.
It is up to yourself but if you are a perfectionist like myself you`ll end up missing the film by flicking options for the best effect.........
