Which HD Camcorder??

LongPig (Competent) posted this on Wednesday, 28th November 2007, 21:58

Need to buy one this Friday. Have been looking at this and wondered if anyone has got one. It`s actually on sale in local Sears for C$529 (£258.) and dont know much about the cons of HD camcorders. The DVD camcorders are even cheaper, of course. So which type and why? What to look out for? Also the HD ones here are either Sony or JVC.

Many thanks in advance.

The Panasonic also listed at this retailer is a 3 CCD chip full HD camcorder and, although more expensive, is probably more future proof. The way forward for recording seems to be the new generation of SD card which has the advantage of creating no mechanical noise to be picked up by on board microphones and probably lower power consumption. Editing might be interesting in the near future as the new recording codec is not well supported yet.

Thanks for that... A bit over what I`m willing to spend on a camcorder as I`ll just stress out while on holiday somewhere knowing that someone will point it up at the sun, get sand in it or something. This will be my fourth camcorder in 10 years.
Not too serious about making videos.

I`m even swaying back down to a dvd type (much cheaper) for that very reason.
