CyberHome ADL528

Ok, i have finally (i think) decided on which dvd player to buy. And this is it - only £99.99 from richer sounds. It has quite a few features, plays cdr`s, and mp3`s. It also has a built in dolby 5.1 decoder, but just a dts output, not decoder, which isnt a surprise for a £100 player. It is also multi-region from the box.

Has anyone had experience with this player? Is the picture and sound quality anygood? Also, can it play RCE region 1 dvd`s?

Umm, i think thats it, anyone has any comments on this player (or the 2 channel non dolby-decoder 228 version) would be appreciated.

Thanks;

Harvey

I have the 512, and have found it fine. I know the 528 has been awarded best budget player by some HT mag. It is apparently multiregion (although I expect you need to switch it on from a secret menu), so R1 will be fine.
Have a look at this site http://www.cyberhome-help.de/tadl528_english.php4 where there is a full review and instructions on how to make it multiregion.
I think you may find it worthwhile upgrading the firmware (depending which version it arrives with), as I think early ones had some glitches that have been ironed out. Again the above site can help there.
Dolby decoder is only useful if you want to plug it into a non decoder laden amp, such as one of the cheapys like the all in one Bush300 mentioned in several current threads.
Not sure if there are other differences between the models.

Even if you don`t intend to go the full home cinema amp and speakers route, plugging the 2 channel output into your hifi can make a huge difference to the sound you get out.

ok, thanks richard. I was intending to plug some creative DTT2200 5.1 speakers in it. They have built in amp. i believe as they are intended for pc sound card.

Thanks again,

Harvey

Update:

Just been thinking, the creative speakers (which i dont have yet) surely have the 3.5mm plugs (like headphone type) to plug into the sound card. Looks like ill have to do a bit of wire chopping and put the connectors that the dvd player uses on them.
