Page 1 of Recommendation for Sub. Help!

My current setup is Onkyo 595 with kef Q55.2 fronts, Q95c.2 centre and Q85s rears. I have a Hitachi dvp 305 and a Nad c521 cd. Although I am extremely pleased with the setup and sound, I am looking to introduce a Sub for that extra kick. Can anybody recommend a good Sub for £2-300 which would match the above. Do they have to match? Can I listen to cd aswel as dvd and sky digital using the sub both in stereo and surround modes on the amp? Any advice would be greatly recieved!

A new one to look at is the MJ Accoustics (I think). I havn`t heard one yet but they are causing a bit of a stir in the trade and costs from £299.

There can be only one - Yamaha YSWT320 - if you look around you can get it for about £280 (typical selling price is £350).

Also does anybody know about wiring these up so that I can listen to stereo music, dvd and sky throught the sub?

The sub should have a low level input (unamplified) (the .1 or 5.1), which the sub`s amplifier deals with - that`s for HT.
For other sources, the sub should also have high level (already amplified) inputs and outputs - basically the speaker cable for the main speakers runs to these, then you run another cable out of the sub to each of the speakers. The sub`s crossover then slices things up, deals with the low level stuff, and sends what`s left to your main speakers.

Alternatively, your amp may have a setting to allow low level stuff run to the sub via the low level output, however, you may be more restricted with the crossover frequency here (i.e. the point at which the signal is divided between sub and main speakers).

Well, that`s how I understand it, anyway.

They have some reasonable offers.

I bought a Wharfdale 12" Topaz Sub for £99.. Not the same quality as a REL or other higher priced sub, but it certainly shifts the air.

No disrespect to cheaper subs but the kit you have got deserves better. If nessersery live without one and save up. You will not regret it in the long run.
