Goodmans DVD3500 / Grundig GDV620 annoying BUZZ from Woofer ?
Hi all,
==> To update this post, I tried a 2nd Grundig - but it had the same bad hiss/buzz from the woofer, very noticable in the quiet surrounding of your lounge, compared to a noisy store. At higher volume settings I could also hear a sort of clock noise (IE. repetative beat ).
I returned the 2nd unit to Currys and got a refund without any problems - I`m going to save up and buy a more expensive brand. (As recommended by the in store service technician .... )
Cheers.

The Buzz/hiss from the sub woofer on my player is very bad and noticable even when there is no DVD being played - and it is still there when playing the movie.
- Turn volume anything above 2 and the buzz is constant.
- Tried an alternate speaker, same problem.
- Tried different position etc - still there.
I am going to take the whole lot back to Currys on Monday - for exchange or refund, as the unit is definitely faulty.
Calling all you Goodmans / Grundig owners out there - do you have the same problem. (So far I have seen 2 posts, 1 with and 1 without Buzz, plus mine of course ).
Please let me know.
Fozz.

RE: Goodmans DVD3500 / Grundig GDV620 annoying BUZZ from Woofer ?
I purchased the Goodmans DVD3500 a couple of weeks ago and am pleased with the picture quality and sound considering the price.
But within the last week the sub-woofer has developed a buzz which is quite distracting during a films quiet moments. It was certainly not audible during the first week of use.
All the other speakers have a slight buzz but not enough to hear from more than a foot away. The sub buzz can be heard all around the room.
Surely this is not normal ?.
If you have taken it back to Currys how did you get on.

Mine has a buzz as well but I can cope with it. I would be interested to hear how you got on returning it. Does the new one buzz. I think mine did from day one.

Hi again,
Well I exchanged my Grundig GDV620 for another on Monday.
I have yet to try the new machine - I will try it tonight and let you all know.
I didn`t have any problems exchanging the unit - but if this one is as bad, I shall be seeking a refund.
I do not think there should be a bad hiss or buzz from the woofer. I would not put up with it on a £40 portable and certainly not on something costing £200. (Even if £200 is a lot cheaper than the competition).
Cheers.

I have today returned my 2nd Goodmans 3500 to Comet and obtained a refund. There was a buzzing noise coming from the sub on both models. The peculiar thing is that when customer service guy set the thing up in the shop, there was no buzzing whatsoever! The buzzing occurred even when I tried setting the unit up in a different room away from the TV, Sky box etc, so that ruled out interference. Comet were quite happy to refund me. Shame because otherwise a good player - good sound/great picture.

People, If I may submit my 2 penth. One of the reasons that you may be getting a buzz is because the cables that are supplied with any of these lower end systems are nortoriously crap. They are made out of cheap copper wire which has high latency that carries alot of impedence which generates a reasonable amount of white noise (buzz or hiss) This will be more audible in the sub due to the fact that it has a bigger driver unit, so the sound is amplified.
I have 2 suggestions. Either upgrade your interconnects to OFC (oxegen free copper) cable or invest in a seperate AV decoder and link the player with a digital optical cable
