NTL Box is now a Virgin media box :)

Well so far that`s a good thing! went to change channel and noticed the channel display had changed, it`s similar but also puts channel number in top left hand corner.

went into the menus, and it`s a all virgin and black, easier to read IMHO, looks more professional, less fisher price ;)

the tv guide is vastly improved, well for the most part. Sometimes you used to sit there and watch while the programme names were loaded, now it`s instantaneous.

there is no day forward/back button, but since the browsing is fast now, that`s not so much of a pain, i could only seem to go forward a couple of days still though :(

adding reminders is the same, although if you want to see what reminders you have, you have to go back a menu, and then into a different one, which is a bit annoying. But in the settings you can choose to have a reminder at 1, 3 or 5 mins before programme start. (I think that`s what the choices were anyway.)

generally the menus seem more friendly and all in all faster, had to add favourites again, but that was prewarned in some post a week or so ago. You can even get into the engineers menu if you want!

Any sign of a 7-day EPG or even just VCR-style timers (like on the analogue system :( )?

I presume it`ll just get updated (eventually) during the night like other software changes have done.

Ring 151 and ask them to send the signal through again, either the box will reboot by itself or you do it, then it *should* work.

EPG oh dear, no wonder the +24hr button has gone, it`s 6:05 am Wednesday and I can go as far as 6:30-7 Thursday Morning :(

Hopefully hey`ll improve that. My old videotron/C&W analogue box never had a timer at all, so 3 steps forward 2 back :(

I didn`t even have to reboot the box to get new menus, must have done it over night.

Just tried on demand, I got as far as choosing a programme, it said it was included as part of my package, and asked for a PIN, no idea what that is!

Still that`s an improvement, before when I chose on demand it would freeze and I had to turn the box off and on !

Box is a black Pace one.

On the Sammy box`s you can try a forced update

Switch off at the mains press the < ^ > buttons (all three at once) on the front panel and switch back on

The display should change to LD14, release the buttons and it will cycle through checking for updates

This may not work for everyone as I`ve tried it a few times but still get the old NTL menus

Yep, that`s Telewest`s influence. :( Been stuck with an (up to) 24 hour EPG and no other way to set timers for about 6 and a half years now...

The default PIN was/is 1234, we had the same PIN for years but it was reset to that automatically when we first got Teleport.

It asks you for a PIN if the programme was originally shown after 9pm or is a 15/18 on DVD and you`re trying to watch it between 5am and 10pm. Pain in the arse and that`s the most lax setting of the parental control - no option to turn it off even though there are usually no kids in the house and when there are *I* have the remote! :D
