I swear this one is going to send me loopy!!!

NIKKI D (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 12th February 2007, 13:54

I have had huge problems with DVD recorders that I have bought recently. In the last four weeks I have tried Digilogic, Goodmans and now a Bush DVR3006 - all seem to run the same blasted software which is dismal. I`ve a number of home vids I want to transfer - I didn`t buy a big expensive one because that`s the main job I wanted to do. So I set it up, amend the record quality to LP which should allow three hours on one disc - the quality on the original isn`t that great so I didn`t mind the slightly reduced quality - it records for about 5 minutes then stops for no apparent reason. Nothing I try seems to work. Same thing if I use it in place of a VCR to record an evening`s viewing when I`m out. Anything more than 2 hours seems to throw it completely. I`ve ruined that many discs I`m all coastered out.

Can anyone offer me any suggestions before I give up completely and go back to my creaky old video recorder which never lets me down

Hi Nikki D,

Have a look at Trading, I have a very nice Philips ( not everyones fav ) HDD&DVD Player/Recorder for sale, it`s the DVDR3300H model, with 80Gb/130Hrs recording, you can record from hard disk to dvd.

Cheers, Mick.

I`m not really interested in having one with a hard drive to be honest. I didn`t want to spend that sort of money. Am I mad to think that a machine should `do what it says on the tin`???

I`ve had this one since Christmas before last, had no trouble with it, but the one I wanted was out of my price range, so saved up and got what I wanted which is the Panny DMR-EX85, so this one is surplus to requirments, no marks or scratches, only want about £90, for a good home plus P/P.

Cheers Mick,

Thanks for your offer - it`s worth considering however I still feel hugely aggrieved that having forked out good money in good faith the wretched things still won`t work. I managed to record 2.5 hours last night - more than I have before but I still can`t get it to do three hours when recording in LP. It should - if I`m reading it right - do 3 hrs on LP, 4 on EP and 5 I think on SLP which I wouldn`t use anyway.

What annoys me more is the supercilious attitude of the `helpline` body I spoke to yesterday. Not HELPFUL at all. All he could say was to return the thing but since I`ve no real faith another one wouldn`t have the same fault I`m not inclined to go trotting back yet again.

I think I`m going to go back to my old reliable video.

You have your answer in the first sentence. AVOID like the devil..philips as well.

You can get an extremely reliable Panasonic for less than £100-00. This has a 4 hour LP mode that is extremely high in quality. Much higher than any other make.

That`s it! The wretched thing is in the car boot ready to go back to the shop. I set it to record three items this week off the telly for later viewing - completely failed to record any of them. Plus I still cannot get it to record anything over two hours. A complete waste of time and money.

Unfortunately we are not blessed with any number of electrical stores in Peterborough - one or two perhaps but they all seem to stock the same old rubbish so we are thrown onto the mercy of supermarket electricals. I`ve never had any problems before but this has driven me right up the wall. I did consider a Phillips which they had in for £129 but that seems to have been rubbished. So I`ve no idea what to go for now.

What got me was the attitude of the beggar on the Bush `helpline` he really couldn`t have given a monkeys - told me to take it back to the shop so that`s precisely what I shall do.

With that in mind what`s the opinon of the Samsung DVD-R130?
