Digital TV via a Sky+ Box!

Colin Mitton (Harmless) posted this on Monday, 8th January 2007, 12:18

I have just got a LCD tv for in my bedroom, It has a Intergrated Digital TV Receiver! The TV has a `TV-Link` From the SKY+ box down stairs and the SKY+ box is connected to the arial on the Roof. I`m not sure if the arial is Digital compatable so I ran the auto install for the BBC Digital Service and got nothing! Before I look at changing my arial will the digital signal still come through my SKY+ box to which my Roof Arial is connected?

Bit of a funny question but would make life a little easier that have a wireless connector for my SKY+ Box then a separate arial for the digial TV!

Thanks

You must have an aerial RF lead going into the back of the TV to be able to tune into any channels, I`m afraid.

That TV-Link is like a wireless Video Sender, isn`t it? In other words, it only sends the Sky screen, with the ability to change channels from upstairs with a remote transmittor.

Unless the aerail is more than about 30 years old, it will be Freeview compatible, but the reception will very much depend on the signal strength in your area, and obviously some Frreview tuners (in this case, the one built into your TV) are much better than others.

Check your local Freeview reception here: www.freeview.co.uk/home

To answer your questions a clear up a thing or two!

My sky+ connects to the standard satalite dish on the wall and the main arial on the roof.

The signal from the arial on the roof is passed through to the other devices connected to the sky+ box, i.e. video / DVDR / TV through the standard RF out.

The TV link does send up the standard Analogue signal from the Roof arial please the sky+ signal, I can get good reception on my analogue for BBC 1 / 2, ITV, C4.

My Main concern is that differnet signal range is `filtered` out from the range sent up via TV link or through the Main RF out.

I`m in an area where you need a beefy arial to get digital as I have spoken with a friend (since I put this post on) who said he needed to change his for a high gain (???) one as the arial he had did not work.

Thanks

In that case, I think you have answered your own question. The digital signal should not be being filtered out, but it is obviosuly too weak. Did you do a postcode check on the Freeview site?

You could try a booster in the line up, either before the Sky+ box, or upstairs before the TV. But I think you will ultimately need a stronger aerial.

I did do a post code check and the area is fine! I`ll try a booster and see how it goes. I was not sure if the sky box filtered out the digital signals range or not? Has anyone else tried... In the mean time i will give it a go and see how I do! I`ll let you all know.
