plasma tv`s and media tuners

hamshall (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 28th November 2006, 23:07

hi,
i`ve had my samsung plasma now for about 5 years and now the media tuners broke, plasma still works but without the tuner it`s no good, anyway if i were to purchase a pioneer media tuner with all the same connections should it work with a samsung plasma, any help would be great.

thanks in advance

Not entirely sure if I`m on the same track but can`t you just connect a Freeview box into it.

Pioneer have never sold thier plasma media boxes seperatly to the end consumer. when we have had to replace one for a customer it was the best part of £600. I would guess the protocols and softwear will be totaly differant between samsung and Pioneer. Just can`t see it happening.

Paull, Some sets have no conections on the back apart from a system connector that goes back to a seperate control box. All other equipment plugs in to that box and not the tv.

Hamshall. Post the model and serial number of your set and i will have a word with my samsung rep and see if they have any answers. No harm in asking.

Right, so it`s a `Panel` as apposed to a TV. I seem to have read when I was looking into panels a couple of years ago that you could buy some kind of converter for about £100-00. But I`m sure Andrew will put me right... yet again.

It is not so much a panel but a 2 box tv. A panel will work with an external tuner as the panel will have conections on the back. The 2 box tv will not alow this. It would be like taking the insides out of your tv.

thanks for the replys,
the model is ps-42p2sb, i`d been watching an ebay auction for the same samsung media station, but i had a feeling that the seller had got one of his mates to bid on it with a stupid high bid forcing me to go higher, other than that i`ve come no where near getting hold of a replacment media box
