Why CRT over Rear Projection??

Rish (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Friday, 5th October 2001, 04:05

Hello,

I ordered my Tosh 36Zp today over the phone. I later went into a Currys store and saw the 40" rear projection TVs (and bigger), they also had the Tosh on display in another area). The RP TV blew me away - I loved it...perfect size (40"), fairly slim. I guess coz I`m upgrading from a 25" set, I wanted to feel like an upgrade - especially with parting so much cash - does that make sense?

Anyway, I was wondering why would people pay the same price for a CRT when they can get a bigger RP TV - I don`t really know anyhting about RP TVs.

I really am considering changing the order to a RP TV...anyone got any comments to help me out.

Thanks
Rish

CRTs tend to have a wider viewing angle and perform much better under "normal" lighting conditions (i.e. watching them with the lights on and curtains open, like most non-enthusiasts do!)

If you want a set exclusively for home-cinema use, I`d go for projection, but for normal "domestic" use I`d go CRT every time.
