I saw some info about an Mp3 player that plays small 185mb CD-R`s which I thought I would share with you

What do you think?
I had a look at this a couple of weeks ago. I think it looks a really neat idea, and COULD be the future of portable mp3 music. Absolutely no idea what it sounds like, tho`. It`s £100 at www.dabs.com and the cheapest place I`ve seen for the mini-cdr`s is

£1 for re-writeable and 62p for once-onlys. Thanks to clayts for the cdr supplier recomendation!

RE: New Mini CD/Mp3 Player!!
Now this does look impressive !!!!!
£100 quid? so its well priced then !
I wonder if those cds can be played back on normal cd-roms/dvd roms or even DVD players?
If it can then this tiny portable device looks like a standard for sure.
Never did like Minidisc/carts or any of that crap.
What Hifi reviewed it this month, and didn`t really rate it that highly. I`ll put up some highlights of the review if you`re interested.
I recently bought a full size CD/MP3 from jungle for £70 inc VAT, the NAPA315 - pretty good, although, like the mini CD one, it does skip a bit.
Rechargable batteries last about 10 hours, it has a Sony mechanism. Not as convenient as the small one, but cheap, and sounds good. I Also bought a car cassette adapter gizmo for 99p from Jungle as well - branded a Rio 500 one, but works with anything.
RichardH,
What didn`t What Hi-Fi rate about it? Reason I ask is that this is obviously NOT going to sound like a Naim/Linn etc separates system! My 12 year old son is tempted to buy it and really isn`t hugely bothered about audiophile performance, just convenience and `wow factor`. ;-)

PS AFAIK, these mini-cds play on any dvd-rom/cd-rom drive.
How did you know I had a Naim/Linn system (didn`t think I`d mentioned the Linn) - ahhhh, vinyl...
Anyway.
Looking back at the review, they mark it down for skipping a bit too easily ("particularly prone to jogging compared to the latest personal CD players"), and the fact that it only does MP3 encoding. They actually think it sounds OK - a bit harsh, but generally OK. If you want me to scan the page and email it, let me know.
BTW - they list the price as £69.
Convenience and wow factor - definitely - our full size one`s a bit bulky.

RichardH,
I would be most grateful (God, it sounds like I`m emailing comdirect about their £150 offer!) if you could do just that, mate.
Many thanks.

The little CDs can certainly be played back on a normal player - they`re just miniature (3 inch) CD-Rs, nothing more.
The 3 inch CD format is nothing new, they were originally touted as a format for CD singles (around 1988-89) and Sony even brought out a miniature Discman for them. I`m surprised they aren`t more common.

RE: New Mini CD/Mp3 Player!!
Hmm not bad think ill wait for the next gen models too appear :)
but these mini cds do look sweet!
I do think it plays the 3" CD`s you used to get singles on (I have 3 of them from the 80`s) but I don`t think they do them anymore?. Proberbly because they put music videos on singles now.
