Which Scart ?

Steve B (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Wednesday, 18th October 2000, 11:58

My new TV (Toshiba 28W8DB) has 3 scarts, although as I understand it only scart 1 has RGB input. Currently I have Sky analogue attached to scart 1, VCR on scart 2 and Wharfy 750 (output set to RGB) on scart 3 (set to AV input) as advised by the TV`s manual. Would I be better off switching the DVD to scart 1 to make full use of RGB ? I must admit to being a DVD viewing novice (only watched one movie !) but it looked and sounded pretty good as it is.

I`d be inclined to try the DVD on SCART 1 and see if you notice any difference (which I doubt). Then decide either to leave it as is, or swap your Sky and DVD connections.

You`ll probably be best off just leaving it.

Cheers,
Peter.

YES - switch to Scart 1! I have exactly the same setup, the other 2 only offer composite/svideo.

RGB is MUCH better!!! the only bummer is my playstation has to go into a composite scart... Boo hoo!

Thanks uk_bas, I`ll give it a go. I too was considering a composite scart for my playstation as I`ve run out of scart sockets (3 really isn`t enough these days !) What scart socket do you connect to ?

I`m hoping(!) to have a similar problem soon with a Philips 28PW9616 tv.

I`ve got a Philips VCR (VR860) which is recommended to go on Scart 2, a Philips digibox and (soon) a DVD player which is likely to be either a Wharfedale or a next-batch-Scan.

Can I connect the digibox through the DVD to Scart 1 and would I then be able to record DVD`s (Macrovision permitting) and digital TV sources ok?

Sorry for the basic questions but I`ve never had the luxury of more than one scart before:)

(Answer to steve)

I actually have an S-Video lead for my PSX, which is better than the standard composite Scart (but not RGB), so I use this.

You can only get these in the states though...

otherwise, scarts 2&3 will be no different, your choice.

Great TV though ain`t it! The picture resize options are great.

Can you tell me where the subwoofer options are in the menu though? I still can`t find em.... where is that manual!!!

not true, a S-vid lead is available from any half decent shop, even EB, and will cost you about the same as a RGB scart, about £3+.

I have a S-vid lead for my non-rgb modded n64 and for my DC for games that arent RGB compatible.

(Reply to uk_bas)

Is it the simple subwoofer on/off option you want to access or something more sophisticated ? If it`s the on/off I`ll post the instructions this evening once I check the manual. I can`t recall seeing any more sophisticated subwoofer options but I`ll double-check the manual again.

uk_bas,

To turn sub woofer on/off use the button with the speaker/music note symbol (it`s just below the yellow fast-text button) this button should toggle the sub woofer on and off. When the option is set to "on" you should also be able to adjust the sub woofer volume with the + and - buttons situated below the sliding panel. I think that`s it as far as the sub woofer is concerned but let me know via this thread if you need anything else from the manual.
