Page 1 of Alba 113 questions?

Hi all, Ive been reading all the topics posted about the Alba 113 from Argos (£99.99) and am wondering what the deffinative answer to some questions raised are, please could someone who owns this machine tell me the following:

*Is it region free
*Does it play VCD`s
*Does it play CDR`S/RW`S
*Does it play MP3 cd`s

Yes its multi-region.No it don`t play cdr/cdrw so mp3/vcd don`t really come into it does it? But be warned I`ve heard of 113`s locking onto R1 and not playing anythng else after, thats why alba covered themselves by putting little R2 sticker on box!!! If it fuks up no warrenty!!!

Hi there, i bought an Alba fromArgos, they said i was getting the 113, but i got the better model 104, which is multi region straight from the box, and plays most cdr`s/cd-rw`s, never tried mp3`s but should work.

if it is still under Argos`s warrenty.take it bcak and ask for the better model, i have had no prbs with , cheap and cheerful,but worth it.

I bought a 113 and after getting the firmware update from Alba can confirm that

1. It does play CD-RW - the firmware update came on one !
2. It is multi region - Watched sixth sense on R1 last night ( hasn`t locked onto R1)
3. It does play VCD - I bought one and watched it at the weekend

Thanks for the info on the DVD Player. I also got the firmware upgrade from Alba but it won`t install because it is on CDR. What brand of CDR was your update on? I have heard a rumour that only discrite work (White Top).

Please tell me how you went about obtaining this firmware update.
I have just bought a 113 and want it to be able to recognise CD-R(W).

I phoned the number for the Alba Helpdesk in the manual and they went through a firmware issue check. Basically if you have a red bar down the left hand side of your screen when you do not have DVD in the drive then you need the update. If it`s green you don`t.
