Help me choose my new Plasma screen!! (narrowed down to 2...)
Ok, after a month or so of reading up on the reviews etc. and all things Plasma/LCD, I am about to take the plunge!
I have decided against an LCD - mainly because I still prefer the picture on a good Plasma. And also, the mags I`ve been reading recommend Plasmas over LCDs for watching movies/sport (the main requirement!).
Anyways, the final two are:
- Hitachi 42PD7200 (£1400ish)
- LG 42PX5D (£1600ish)
Has anyone got either - or recommend one? They both get 5 star reviews and look very nice - I just don`t know which to go for...
RE: Help me choose my new Plasma screen!! (narrowed down to 2...)
I`ve just got the LG 42px4r.
Very pleased with it (it`s £1499 at richer sounds)
Good resolution 1376x768.
Really nice pic quality on componant dvd - i`ve just got the LG upscaling dvd player to go with it too & that`s HDMI connected.
The sound quality of the built in speakers is excellent...very deep bass & clear high end.
I know 2 more people who have had LG plasmas (one for over 2.5 years & neither - touch wood - have had no problems).
Good luck & enjoy it when you get it :)
Edit..
I`ve just checked the screen res on the model you have mentioned & it`s lower than the 42px4r model.
Here`s a link, but it doesn`t tell you the screen res here, but trust me it`s right.

Thanks mc - that was on my list originally, but I couldn`t find any reviews of it anywhere. Have you got any links to any reviews of it? It does look very nice though....

Matches with the TV lovely :D
I (like you), couldn`t find any reviews of this model either (a similar thing happend a couple of years ago with LG & richer sounds, where you couldn`t find the model number anywhere else)
Is there a R.Sounds near you?
The store where i live are demoing HDTV on it...Believe me - it`s good!
Cheers,
Mark :)

Buy from John Lewis and get a free 5 year guarantee.
RE: Help me choose my new Plasma screen!! (narrowed down to 2...)
Or if you know anyone who is a COSTCO (C & C) member buy it from there and a)usually a bit chepaer) and Lifetime return to COSTCO guarantee as long as you`ve still got membership with them or b) comes with 3 year parts & Labour repair at address you registered at the time of purchase where it will be kept.
I just got myself the Phillips 26 PF5520D for bedroom and hoping to get Main 42inch with them within next year or so.

Was the Phillips 26 PF5520D from costco, if so how much?
RE: Help me choose my new Plasma screen!! (narrowed down to 2...)
I got it for £539 + Vat (about £633)
I know that J Lewis have it for £699 on their web site with free delivery and 5 year guarantee, but I`m sure if you call one of their stores you might be able to get it cheaper as a price match. Other sites (amazon £629) have it cheaper but you have to pay extra for the warranty. Also worth noting that some reviews claim it`s had problems with the freeview digitual tuner freezing or causing picture to breakup.
Costco also had the Toshiba 27inch which had better speakers (20W) but thought the remote was a bit fiddly mind you I hadn`t researched it before purchase.
Costco also had a few very large Plasma screens, sorry can`t remember prices or brand names other than Samsung and Sony.

Hulk, I`m very interested in the LG 42PX5D. Can you point me in the direction of magazines with reviews of it?
Giggity giggity!

Hulk, I`m very interested in the LG 42PX5D. Can you point me in the direction of magazines with reviews of it?...well I haven`t found any on-line reviews of it (it`s still fairly new) - the one I read was in issue 24 (April) of "What Plasma & LCD TV" magazine. There`s an 8 page special on why Plasma is still the "King of TV" - and also "The world`s best movie TVs" review section where they review/test 7 top screens (all Plasmas, btw).
One of them is the LG42PX5D and they really like it. It gets 5 stars (out of 5) overall and is awarded a "Best Buy" star: "The ideal solution for your high-def needs that provides stunning results without costing a bundle".
They also really like the Hitachi 42PD7200 (check it out at: www.homecinemachoice.com).
