What is my best set-up?

RoughRab (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Thursday, 6th September 2001, 16:41

I have just purchased a new tv, and I was wondering what is the best set up for that, my dvd player, my sky digital and my video recorder. The tv has 3 scart sockets, one of them euro scart? Any help would be appreciated, Cheers

DVD - TV : SCART to whichever SCART socket on TV is RGB enabled (usually AV1)

Sky - VCR : SCART from Sky VCR out to VCR SCART AV1 in
Sky - TV : SCART from Sky TV out to TV SCART AV2 or AV3.

If you can remove Macrovision on your DVD player you may need to alter this, and it depends if your DVD player has 2 SCART sockets. The above is the best setting if you are unable to disable Macrovision.

Thus, you can tape Sky onto VCR, by setting your VCR to record off AV1 (or LINE 1 or L1 or INPUT 1, dpending on the make of VCR)

Similarly, you can tape off normal analogue broadcasts (sometimes called "off-line" broadcasts) on your VCR whilst watching Sky.

Pressing PLAY on your VCR will force the TV to show your VCR picture, regardless of whether your digibox is on or off. Alternatively, as you have a spare set of sockets, you could run a SCART lead from VCR to TV AV3.

So many sockets, so many choices - my first sugestion is easiest, though, honest ;-)
