tv picture problem

shnozzer (Competent) posted this on Tuesday, 4th September 2001, 13:05

i have a brand new philips 6515 pure flat screen, and the other day whilst watching super england destroy the kaiser i noticed a problem or 2.
1-top left the score board should have read germany 1 england 5,but mine read ermany 1 ngland 5.a small portion of pictyure seems to be missing,as if it is too far across to the left.
2-whilst watching super ngland when the camera pulled back for a full pitch shot,my picture had 2 big dark shadows on it.the centre of the shot was fine, but the 2 outer thirds were not.
3-when watching wide screen broadcasts both ends of film/programme credits are chopped off.subtitles to sometimes.
please help.
shnozzer.

1 and 3 sounds like excessive overscan, while 2 sounds like the tube may be in need of degaussing.

All of these are easily fixed, but if the set is brand new you should really take it back and get it exchanged.

also when watching sky digital through rgb the picture looks really digitised almost as if it on 100hz.do you get this as well or is it just me?
anyone got any advice

cheers.

i have ondigi and the picture is fairly crap anyways.
i`m sending mine back, but as mine is an insurance job and was sent to me via amtrak from somewhere in devon,an engineer from philips has to visit first.but,i won`t be accepting any repairs.

Hi Shnozzer

I am interested in the Philips tv you have, would you not recommend it to me now, based on your findings? What other tv`s did you consider around the 450 price bracket?

Cheers

Will

i looked at panny, hitachi and the lesser cousins, bush, goodmans etc
and found that to my `agricultural eye` the philips to be much better.
the problems i have i don`t deem to be major, they just seem to be set up trouble.the screen geometry is good, lines are straight, circles are round.i consider it the best picture in this price range, but i don`t go big on the sound.but then again i have a good dts set up so the sound is not in question in my case.
overall i do reccomend for picture quality.i think it unbeatable in its price range.no tizz,or bleeding.

I can tell you how to get into the service menu but if you do you need to copy all the values before you start tweaking or you are screwed. On the hand set type 062596 and push the menu button.then 062596 and the i+ button. This brings up the service menu with geometry settings.Sonds like the h shift wants adjusting. When you change anything to save it just hit the menu button to return to the service menu dont change screen mode before you do this or you will lose what you just changed. When your happy push standy the set will switch off. Then power off for ten seconds or so and power on again and it should be all done.

Thanks for the info shnozzer, I think i`ll give the philips a go, it`s certainly the most attractive priced! Which for my first widescreen is very important. Hope you get yours sorted soon, keep us updated on how u get it fixed.

Cheers
