Another Crazy Idea? Portable Mains Hard Drive music player in Car?

I have an 80Gb Freecom MediaPlayer-3 hard drive device
Power rating via transformer adaptor is:

Rating Power Voltage: AC 100~240V±10% ; 50/60Hz /
External AC/DC Adapter
AC output current (converted power): 5V, 1.5A / 12V, 1.5A

I can connect the sound (Line out) output into one of those cassette type adaptors which can then plug into the car CD/Cassette/Radio head unit.

Could someone explain how I could connect this hard drive unit to a cars power to make it work. I assume if I can mount it hidden somewhere, such as under a seat and use the remote control, plug in the cassette adaptor, hey presto! 10,000 wma tracks in the car :D or is it :(

Hi

I suspect you could use an inverter [ converts 12volts to 230 volts ] and come in a few sizes 300 watt / 600 watt ? .Iam no expert but using a load tester [ i have a 13 amp one that looks like a timer that reads out the load for using with my generator] you could find out what size you need.I would expect it wont use that much power.

bye

A friend of mine bought an 12v to 240v convertor from maplin to run his laptop in the car.

Search for code N65AU at www.maplin.co.uk
