Can`t get any video tape inside the VCR (Sony SLV E700)?

GPATRS (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Monday, 9th January 2006, 11:01

Bought a year ago new dvd and unpluged my old VCR (Sony SLV E700). Realised later that I forgot to take out a tape from that VCR, so I pluged it in again. Only now no power got through, it was like dead. So I unscrewed it and manually got the tape out.

Now (about a year later) I tried to plug in the old vcr again. And suprise suprise it is working :D , but with one foult (major!) . It thinks that the tape I got out earlier manually still is in there and when I try to pull in a new tape it doesn`t take it in. :(

Also it gives me an error code when I try to prees a button (play stop rewind eject etc.): L:07:12 And it displays that a tape is inside but it`s not! >:(

The code means "Cass load inop". By that it means that the video tries to alternately eject & load empty tray (with no tape in it)

It would mean so much to me if someone could explain what to do and if I could fix it in someway myself or If should I go to some service point so they can fix it?

All Ideas are welcome, especially from those who had or has the video model mentioned above. :D

How did you get the tape out of a dead machine, did you do some cog turning and get the machine to push out the tape? :/

I think Zovirax is on the right track.
All of the cassette and tape movements within a vcr are monitored by switches and sensors.
I`m guessing that to get the cassette out you had to manually turn the gears in the loading tray or operate the flywheel - to unthread the tape and raise the tray - and failed to return these to the position they were in. Also, there is usually a sensor which detects if a cassette is in the machine.
I would open it up again, (make sure it is not connected to the power supply) put in a cassette and and operate the the gears/flywheel until the cassette is back in position and the tape fully threaded, and then try to start the machine.
Don`t use exessive force to turn the gears or any part of of the mechanism and don`t switch the power on with the lid off.
Unless you really know what you are doing, plodging around inside live equipment is not a good idea and you do so at your own risk.

That was going to be my second post, I would not bother with a tape I would put the cassette tray in the out position and the fully in postion (try both) and when you turn in on it should reset itself unless of course you knackered a sensor or two trying to get the tape out with a screw driver/crowbar method. :) :) :)

There also seems to be a power problem. Not everytime when I plug in the vcr there seems to be power going through. Like I said before it was a suprise to see it `alive` when I plugged it in after a near year.

For the moment no power is going through. So it`s more a chance to have the power going through evertime I plug in it.

Nothing seems to work!

Not threading the tape (which I didn`t find that easy to be done, and not sure I got it right to 100 %, maybe 99 % at the top). Fiddling with the tray didn`t work either.

So I must leavit to some professional to fix it. Luckily i have a service point that are authorized for this brand (Sony among others) near where I live.

So I thank you for you`re advises but I leave it to the experts now!
