Aerial Amps

My current one is making starnge buzzing sounds and is putting a kind of `herringbone` pattern across the screen, so I pretty much think it`s time to change it!!. Anyone got any good, inexpensive recommendations? Doesn`t need to be anything fancy- the current one isn`t 1 input, 2 outputs, plus into a wall socket then you can put a plug into it- got from Argos about 3 years ago and has done the job very well

Do these help with picking up a (better) digital freeview signal at all?

1) The herringbone pattern shows that the amp seems to be generating (or picking up) some interference from somewhere; the power supply or the actual amplifier may well be oscillating due to failure of a decoupling (RF or LF bypass) capacitor.

2) If your signals are weak an amplifier could improve performance - but how much depends on the noise figure of the amplifier and the signal to noise ratio of the incoming signal.
A better antenna is a noise free way of getting more signal.
This applies to both digital (Freeview) and analogue transmissions.
