I`m thinking of getting a dvd recorder, the Panasonic dmres10,and getting rid of my Pioneer dv-464,i just wondered if the playback on them with retail discs as good as a normal dvd player,if so i could have the best of both worlds.

Playback quality is just as good as a playback only machine, if not, better than a playback machine if it has an HDMI terminal. i once saw a samsung recorder with HDMI in currys for £230, the other dvd recorders i know of with HDMI are >£500 but the one you are considering is basically the same recorder (mine is the hard disc version) and the playback quality is the bees knees.

I`ve got a Liteon 2005 and the playback picture quality is fine as far as I can tell, but I had problems with one DVD when it sometimes repeats the same numbered section of the DVD instead of going on to the next. I wonder if it`s something to do with it being a double layer DVD.

Also the recorders dont usually have the Dolby surround sound outputs.

Technology is great - if mankind survives.
