RE: Dvd recorders,is playback good with retail discs
I`ve got a Liteon 2005 and the playback picture quality is fine as far as I can tell, but I had problems with one DVD when it sometimes repeats the same numbered section of the DVD instead of going on to the next. I wonder if it`s something to do with it being a double layer DVD.
Also the recorders dont usually have the Dolby surround sound outputs.

RE: DVD Recorder Quality. In what way do poor machines fail to work well?
Yes shellytots, I was looking at Asda. In fact they have come down in price still further now and only £70, but maybe not for long. The Pye recorder at Asda is also the same price but seems to have no DV input.
Theres something else bothering me now. I looked it up at www.cyberhome.de and even their own site doesn`t give a good review of it! Can`t be bad for the price though.

RE: MATSUI DVD 227 DESPERATELY NEED HACK TO MAKE MULTI REGION
In Dixons they told me the info was available from their own web site. Completely legitimate and authorised. Maybe try to find it on their site, or ask in the shop.

Thanks for all the replies. Some interesting stuff. I`ll read it more fully offline.

When buying a cheap DVD recorder, what do you lose compared to a better model. Is it simply that it sometimes fails to record properly, or might the quality also be inferior? What about playback quality?
I like the look and price of the Cyberhome DVR 1600, especially as it`s nice and compact.

RE: Cheap TV tuner??? for portable DVD player
I`m thinking about doing this too. My method would be to get an ordinary VHS video recorder. It would at least be a telly at home, not very portable but better than a full size TV.

RE: LG DR-4810. Anyone got any opinons about it? Also DVD-R vs DVD+R formats.
Thanks Emily.
I recognise your name from another thread on this machine.
I`m pleased that you have been able to compare picture quality with others. I have only ever used this machine but I can`t tell the difference between the recorded material and the playback.
I`m using it for an analog camcorder and also a digital one. I think machines could vary a lot in the way the digitization is done from an analog source, but probably don`t vary if using the DV input because it should just give an exact copy of the digital data.
I too had the problems others have reported with -RW disks and the whole experience was a nightmare but fortunately this forum helps and I`ll try TDK disks.
I guess the reason I chose it was because the large array of gold plated connectors speaks quality and suggests the rest of the machine justifies them.

LG DR-4810. Anyone got any opinons about it? Also DVD-R vs DVD+R formats.
I`ve bought an LD DR-4810 but had problems with -RW format. It was an end of line machine. Is it a bit out of date? It was about the cheapest which uses -R disks. +R seems to be taking over, but mainly by the supermarket cheapies. Any opinions welcome.

RE: Does anyone own an LG DVD Recorder
I`ve got an LG DR-4810. Had trouble with -RW disks and not sure whether +R is going to take over from -R. I`ve seen other things in this forum about the -RW problem. So far only recorded from DV link and it was OK on a -R disk.
