First DVD player

Nimravus (Harmless) posted this on Saturday, 11th August 2001, 11:38

Hi folks, I was hoping to purchase my first DVD player shortly and would appreciate advice.

I have gave myself around £300 to spend and from what reviews I have read in a few magazines I had picked up, I was either thinking of a Pioneer 636 or Sony S735D.

Has anyone had any experience with either of these players or are they both much of a muchness in their performance.
Another thing I was curious about is, is there much difference between a sub £200 player such as the Wharfdale M5 and those that I have mentioned.

At the minute I won`t be using it in a home cinema setup as I`ll be moving house soon and thought the DVD player would be enough to keep me happy for a while, so it will only be used conneceted to a hi-fi amp.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Don`t know much about these players, but you`ll kick yourself if you don`t get one that`s multiregion capable - even if you don`t think you`ll need it yet, once you see some of the prices from Oz....

Happy hunting!

I`ve not noticed much difference, partic if you`re going to be outputting through your hifi. I`d go cheaper and buy a stack of discs with the extra money. Then in a yr or two go for a super duper upgrade or proper amp etc.

I do agree make sure it is multiregion capable.

But thats my tuppence worth.
