Very simple questions to start me off with DVD
I am looking to buy a DVD player for the first time and there are a couple of things I`d like clearing up:
1. Can a DVD player be connected through the analogue aerial socket of a television or do I need a new TV?
2. Is there a preferred DVD player(s) if I want to later add speakers and use as a CD player aswell?
Thanks for your time.

answers;
1, no it cannot, it can be only be connected using one of the two most common methods, either by a `scart` connector or by using s-video. Scart being the better of the two
2, Look for a dvd player that can play audio cd`s the majority can. All depends on budget with regard to sound quality.
hope this helps

If you really couldnt get a new TV, how about
DVD ----scart-----> Video ------aerial cable----> TV

Make sure you get a macrovision disabled player if you want to go via a VCR. Many players don`t let you pass the signal via other sources. It`s so you don`t copy your DVD`s to VCR. Many players can have this feature disabled via a hack. Some even have it disabled out of the box e.g. Eclipse DVD-595
As for Scart being better than s-video? Hmmm... not sure about that. There may be little to choose between RGB via scart and s-video but s-video beats a normal scart hands down.

Thanks for that. I may be back.

Yeah - I`d echo the advice about SCART. SCART tries to be all things to all men and allows for RGB and composite video. You have to have (a) a fully wired (RGB enabled) SCART lead and (b) an RGB-enabled SCART socket on your TV. Miss either or both of those and you end up with composite video. Which you shouldn`t rule out - it is a million times better than an "aerial" picture.
