Page 1 of `Active` Home Cinema System
Hardware Forum
Hello, I am looking to get a Home Cinema System, however, I want to use my existing dvd player and for space reasons, I don`t want to get a bulky amp either.
I realise that I need an amp to play the sound and I have read bits and pieces about `active` subwoofers which have the amp already built in.
Am I right in thinking that the speakers plug into the subwoofer and then the subwoofer plugs into the dvd player?
If so, can anyone recommend a speaker and active subwoofer package - preferably Sony.
Failing that they have one of these systems in Argos which is made by Ministry Of Sound for £99
What do you think..?
Loads of options open to you BUT make sure you have the right connections on the back of your exsisting player I.E 5.1 out etc take a trip to richer sounds they have some cracking package deals LOOK HERE
AND HERES A SONY SETUP

yes but they`re not (bar the £19.95 Acoustic Solutions and the £99.95 JBL packages) what he is looking for - an active speaker set up - ie. a 5.1 set up with built in DD or DTS decoder, ProLogic etc and amplifier that a DVD player, TV and video can plug straight into.
The Sony speakers you suggest require an AV surround sound amp or receiver to power them.
If he bought a cheap amp with the prices quoted he would still be under £99 for the sh*tty Ministry set up and thats why i said "TAKE A TRIP TO RICHER SOUNDS" as if you are not sure they usually have a good selection in store BUT I WAS POINTING HIM IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION JEEEEEEEEZZZZZZZZZZ where are your recomendations then :p

RE: `Active` Home Cinema System
So am I right that the speakers plug into the back of the active subwoofer then? I haven`t got all the connections on the back of my dvd player that you would get on a dvd player that comes as part of a home cinema kit. As I said, I don`t want to get an amp if I can help it...

I`ve got a Sony SLV D900 which is a dvd/video combi. I have checked, and it does have a pro logic II and DTS digital decoder in it. What do you think to the Ministry Of Sound one?
to be honest you might aswell get this one HERE
If i remember right Ministry Of Sound products are made by someone like BUSH/ALBA so not high end stuff you know :/

Ok Ryno, thanks anyway, I will continue my search. I`ll have a look around on review sites and see if I can find a bargain!
Cheers.
