Help Choosing Between JVC, Pioneer, Philips, Grundig , Samsung Players
I am new to the world of DVD players and am shopping in Spain where I live for a DVD player that I can make compatible with DVD`s from the U.S. I am looking for something with good picture and sound quality but I am really not that demanding. I just want something that will hold up and is easy to use and works well with Zone 1 DVDs. I am getting very conflicting information about comparative quality between the following brands and models:
Samsung 511, 611 Philips 612 Grundig, the JVC series 521,522, 523 and the lower end of the Pioneer line. I have been shown models of all of these brands that range from about 150 pounds to 200 pounds.
Can anyone out there give me some tips, suggestions or point me to some reviews that might help?? Thanks

I have the JVC 521 and I am verry happy the the picture and sound quality it is DD & DTS compatible ,can play VCD`s ,CD`s, CDR`s, CDRW`s , plays RCE DVD`s, offers PAL 50 output of NTSC discs,is multi region and the marco vision is disabled! however to get it to be multi-region and marcro vision free, you will have to get it chipped! try www.dvdmagic.com

Hi,
I`m on my second Pioneer and can only recommend this brand with five stars.
Don`t buy before taking a look at any of it.

don`t know about jvc, samsung, or philips players, but....
DON`T get a grundig. Judging by the piece of crap that is the GDV220, which is no better a dvd player than a toaster, stay well clear of them.
Pioneer - well, you can;t really go wrong with any of their players. Good picture, good sound, sturdy, robust... pretty much what you want.
