Satnav - Tomtom 5 or in-car built in.

Which one is better to have? A tomtom 5 or an in-car built in sat nav fitted from the manufacturer. Apart from the obvious difference in costs, does having the in-built sat nav make any difference to resale?

I have tomtom 3 on a pda and the wife has tomtom 5 on a pda both were far cheaper than satnav built in and from the feedback I have recieved from people with built in satnav the biggest issues they have is lack of updates from the manufacturer and the cost of updates when they are issued. I believe the last volvo map update was over £200

Dont know what you are talking abt mate. The Tomtom 5 is a standalone GPS with a built in bluetooth receiver for answering your phone via hands free - it displays text messages too...

I have a K750i - and presumably thatll work with the tomtom using bluetooth?

You can get TomTom Mobile 5 software to load onto memorycard and put into mobile phone, then use`a bluetooth connection to a seperate GPS receiver plugged into cigarette lighter socket. Therefore a cheap Sat Nav System?? Anyone have any experiance of this set up. I already have the Phone, Nokia 6630, which I understand can be used for this set up.
