Hi mate,
It seems you`re out of luck on the Dolby Digital front as the Sony doesnt have any digital inputs,so you`ll only be able to get dolby pro logic at the very most unfortunately.
However(assuming its not on order),a quick browse round some of the av sites on the net should find you some competitive prices on a multi region version of this machine.
As for your last point the performance is fine, with a nice lively picture and(providing you go easy with the volume control),surprisingly punchy sound for its size.
Look at it this way,ANYTHING is better than vhs and a nicam telly with phut phut speakers. As ive said before,a perfect start to home cinema-enjoy....

Hi,

take a look at Pioneer`s XT-DV55 (equal to HTZ-55DV). It`s more expensive, but you won`t regret it later. Specially where bass is concerned.
Mine (HTZ-55DV) is multiregion.

I recently bought this as well, and a good option tthat has been added is an extra subwoofer input. This means that if you don`t think the bass is up to much (i think it is, but others may disagree) you can buy an more powerful active one. The only prob for most people maybe the lack of a scart socket on the player, but you can get converters for s-video to scart (luckily my tv has an s-video input anyway). Picture and sound are excellent though.

I managed to get it modded for only £59 by getting a voucher from www.dvdtimes.co.uk so i would just do that instead.

tollickd,

I`ve also been interested in this model for a few weeks now but have decided to hold off until August when Sony bring out the DAV-S500.

I`m not sure how much your paying for it but techtronics.com are selling a multi-region model for £424.18 and that`s with free delivery.

Just incase your wondering, they are selling the DAV-S500 for £498.
