Philips DVDR610 and 8x Speed Discs

Hi All,

I have recently purchased the Philips DVDR610 (obviously having not read this forum ;) ) and everything seemed to be fine - I have none of the clock jumping or switching problems. So far, so good. However, I have just bought 50 x DVD +R discs from Novatech 8x Discs .I tried using one of the discs for the first time overnight last night and it seemed to start recording fine (recording on EXT2 from Sky+) but this morning I couldn`t access anything on the disc. The same thing happened with another disc I tried recording this morning. I wondered if it was because the discs are 8x? I can`t remember off-hand the exact error message I was getting but I know that I tried recording over one of the discs and got the DISC FULL error so it does seem to be recording to the disc.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I got soem unbranded disks from Maplins. The seem to record and play fine on the machine although noted that they sometimes freeze or jump when played on other compatible DVD players even after being finalised.

Cheers for the responses.

It would appear that it was just the first two discs which were knackered. On closer inspection they had slight scuffs on them, possibly from moving in transit. The rest have been fine (so far).

Thanks again.

Richie.

Only issue I`ve had with discs were some from Jessops - white on top, think they were Infiniti. Lost a few Six Nations matches when they wouldn`t finalise.

Only problem I have with my 610 is occasional lock ups when press record - happened last night when I tried to record Miami Vice on Men and Motors. Disc was not lost fortunately.

Now coming up to a year old. Looking at the Sony 510 DVD with HD as a replacement though - seen for £300 online, records dual media (16 hours on a DVD+R) and recommended in the latest magazine.
