If you take off the lid of the machine, you invalidate the warranty, but if that doesn`t bother you, nip along to Jessops or another reputable photographic retailer and buy a can of compressed air and one of lens cleaner. Unplug the machine and put it on a table, then take out the screws holding the lid down. Put the screws and the lid to one side and you`ll be able to see the business end of the laser sitting in the disc tray. Use the compressed air (through the straw they should provide) to blow away any dust from around the lens, then use a cotton wool bud soaked in lens cleaner to wipe the lens. Put the lid back on the machine and put the screws back in, then plug it all in again.

DISCLAIMER: You do any of the above at your own risk and I`ll accept no responsibility if you kill your player. Be aware it might be your player is just wearing out.

Clear made of plastic\glass, a lot like a lens really. ;)

Usually on a sliding mechanism that can track from near the centre to the outer edge of the disc in one plane.

See the black disc loading tray? There`s a cut out at the far end with a little laser warning label pointing to a little black rectangle of plastic. In the middle of the rectangle is a little white circle. That`s the lens. It`s about the diameter of a ballpoint pen.

Dear Mark Oates
That was very helpful info.
Just this doubt.......is this the picture I will see once the cover of the DVD is removed or is there anymore layers to be removed before the laser reveals itself???
What is the end point of the cleaning???
Regards

As a major safety point, do this with the unit unplugged from the mains.

And again. Unplug from the mains. Not just because of shock risk. Do not touch the lens with your fingers as the grease from them can get burnt on to the lens.

All the best,

It`s not easy being different. It`s not easy being cool....but somehow I manage....
