Yeah, jumped the gun a little on that, didn`t I ?!

Transpires that even players with the `new improved` stickers are also prone to flop. However, if you`ve had it awhile now you should be okay.

The dodgy ones were very much in the minority (by all accounts the M5 is flying off the shelves at Tesco`s according to one of the visitors who works in the Cardiff store), and seemed to be concentrated around my stomping ground, the East Midlands, suggesting an over-zealous fork lift truck driver....

However, even if your player were to go belly up (and it seems relatively unlikely now that you`ve had it a while) Tesco`s are very good about refunds/exchanges.

Incidentally, Area 450 is being relaunched, hopefully tomorrow or Friday - announcement on this forum very soon.

m5 still flying from the shelves, outstripping the sony dvp335/6 by 6-1!ok unfair comparison, but i think when you attract the more mainstream customer,he or she will go for the complete spec wharfey over the minimalist looking sony anyday.sure, sony players are great, but for 170 quid(150 in our pengam green branch!),multi region, built in decoder vs 300quid,region two...er thats it-which would you chuck in the trolley with the milk and biscuits?!
you`ll be glad to know that at our store at least, the problems have all but dried up-haven`t had any back in ages now,so it seems the latest shipments are pretty much glitch free.buy in confidence,it wont be round for long!

bye for now peeps.

just a one off for us cardiff folk unfortunately, new store so the pengam branch had a warehouse full, hence the slight reduction.still-u cant go wrong for 170 quid can you?(btw,im quoting website price in case anyone wondered where the £10 drop came from!)

Curious as to what the problems were that folk were having, since my M5 seems to have developed a couple of wee quirks I don`t like...

Basically, there are 2:

1) CD playback - OK, but seems to have a habit of stopping briefly on the odd track(not cutting out, more as if the CD was scratched even though it isn`t).

2) DVD playback - along the same lines as the CD prob. Slight hiccups in playback eg. El Mariachi, very noticeable and annoying (both on film and features). Other discs too, but offhand cant think which ones.

Is this a common problem or just mine? Did have some probs too with the buttons on the front of the player not working but mysteriously this has resolved itself. Still, going to take it back and exchange anyway. Best to err on the side of caution...

:o)

Yup both (1) and (2) are the common faults - swapsie time I think, Darren.

Also check out http://www.area450.co.uk, and specifically the forums there, for people with similar problems

Its common knowledge that you never buy a car in the first year of production as the odds are stacked against you .
if its going to go wrong it will! and after a few mods it is usually sorted unless you own a lada and then its broke forever(only kidding these lada jokes are gettin old) but in dvd years it may only be a couple of months till the right mod comes out but like in the car world if you want a bmw or audi like the sony or pioneer dvd but cant afford the price tag you may have to go for a mid range ford or vauxhall like the aiwa or go for a low spec lada like the alba or lasonic but if you dont know this your not breathing .
ps i have a vauxhall vectra its not new and it is a s***e green colour but it shifts like a chicken in mc donalds and the outcome is if works ok for you thats all that matters ...baz
