Pioneer 535 distorted sound

Robin Smart (Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 12th June 2001, 14:19

I have just delved into DVD and purchased a multi region chipped Pioneer 535 deck. However, I seem to be having problems with the sound. I have connected it to my Pionner Amp udsing the Audio leads and when playing a CD the sound is distorted. I also have a Goodmans Dolby Pro Logic surround sound system (yes I know it`s not state of the art but I have to start somewhere don`t I!) I have connected the audio leads to this and the sound is distorted through this also. As the deck only has one Scart socket, I have bought a 2 scart adapter and plugged it into this socket. This enables me to use a scart for the telly, a scart to 2 phonos for the Pro Pogic amp and then the Audio output sockets on the back of the deck to the Pioneer Amp. I have tried to only use these sockets and disconnect everything else but the sound is still distorted. I don`t know whether it is the same for DVD`s because as yet I don`t have any but it is certainly a problem for CD`s.

Anyone any ideas I would be extremely grateful

Thanks
Robin

May be worth checking your audio options in your menu - ensure that the player is outputting an analogue signal to your amp, and that you have set the output option (if you can) to LPCM for CDs.

Dunno whether this helps, or indeed is possible, I`m only going on the menus in my lowly Encore DV450 !

Further to my problem regarding the distorted sound. Richer Sounds replaced my DVD player today. I set it up and guess what, I still have the problem so it must be me. Can you tell me masala what your settings are for playing a CD. This is driving me nuts. I know its not my amp because the sound is distorted through the TV, ProLogic amp as well as my Pioneer Amp. Any help would be appreciated. Are there special settings for playing CD`s?

Also, thanks Brock for looking. Would like to know your settings as well as how you have the rest of it set up.

Clayts, don`t think I have LPCM whatever that is.

Thanks

Robin

A friend of mine had a similar problem - distortion on cd audio but not movies. He has a different set up to yours but the route of the problem lay in his TV. The distortion dissappeared when he unplugged the scart to the TV. I know it sounds weird but it worked. Not sure if it will work on your system but it`s a suggestion.

Hope this is of some help to you.

The Shenk-man.

Further info. It will play DVD`s fine but the Cd`s are still distorted. Have tried disconnecting the Scart plug - problem remains.

Thanks all for your help - please keep trying otherwise I might have to return this one and get something different.

Sorted the problem - changed it for a Yamaha s510. The audio quality is now fine and I`m a happy bunny.

Thanks for all your help

Robin
