I currently have my DVD player scart cable going into the back of my TV into one of the 3 scart sockets(as designated by the TV manual). But I do have an RGB setting on my DVD player and apparently Scart socket one on my TV supports RGB so should I set my DVD player to RGB and plug the cable into the RGB port ??. I`m just curious as the TV and DVD player make no mention of this in the manuals ???. Is their any real improvement by changing over the Scart connections ?.
This is a hard fought battle, and has been dragging on for a while now - just which is best - RGB or S-Vid.
Wayne - there`s really only one answer - which do you prefer ?
The RGB on my DVD-out is a brilliant picture, lively, crisp and, er, colourful.
The S-Video picture on my DVD-out burns my eyes out with its laser sharp brightness.
Most of the `home cinema` press disagree - Home Ent. go for RGB (vote HE !!!), Wh*t Hi Fi go for S-Vid (boooooo!!!)
It`s your eyes at the end of the day - I think your TV will surprise you, whatever you decide (RGB...)
It`s an often asked question and its one that the magazines seem to be very out of date on.
Generally, RGB is best, s-video is second and composite is last.
However, there are certain brands of television, Toshiba being the main one, where s-video, whilst viewing NTSC, is better than RGB.
Use your own eyes and decide for yourself as clayts says.
RGB has twice the colour bandwidth of S-Video
S-Video can make a picture look to sharp and unnatural
But it all depends on how well you tv/dvd player implement RGB/S-Video as not all are equal.
Have to agree bout the Tosh tellies, I had one until recently & S-Video was definetly better than RGB. The RGB display on the tosh really confused me. Everyone kept mentioning that RGB was THE best display & I just couldn`t see it. My mate had a Sony Wega & RGB on that was really good. whereas S-Video was similar to composite!!!! Now I have just got a Phillips widescreen TV which you guy`s helped me decide to get & the RGB display is well........sensational! S-Video is okay but not as natural & the blacks are more well.... blacker on RGB.
Luckily I have a Pace SKY digibox that allows an RGB passthrough so I have connected my DVD to it & get lovely RGB pictures from SKY & DVD, the video is stuck in Scart 2 ( I don`t tape anything now anyway) But as you all say, try both as everyone is different.
