VHS to VCD?!?!?!?!?!?

geordieboy (Mostly Harmless) posted this on Tuesday, 29th May 2001, 20:49

I hate to ask silly questions, but how do-able is this, if at all? There`s just so much I have on VHS that until I can get them all on DVD, I thought I could transfer it all to VCD for now.
Any help, lists of equipment or names of a good doctor for asking such a question will be very gratefully taken.

Cheers in advance guys

It`s very do-able, if you have the time (and a video capture card, CD-writer and MPEG software) - but once you see the quality of the resulting VCD, you`ll probably wish you hadn`t bothered :-)

My advice would be to wait until DVD writers and blank discs become more affordable. VCD (or even SVCD) just doesn`t cut the mustard, IMO.

Mike`s right, I wouldn`t bother, VCD is usually lower quality than VHS. However if your determined to get rid of those old tapes, get yourself a tv tuner card (capture card) from dixons (£30 PCTV Rave) then follow the link below
